Primary Practice
Reiki Healing
Reiki is a gentle, hands-on energy practice that supports deep relaxation and the body's own capacity to restore balance. It is the heart of Zeita's practice in Johannesburg — unhurried, private, and shaped around whatever you bring with you.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese energy-healing practice in which the practitioner channels universal life energy — rei (universal) ki (life force) — through light touch or hovering hands. It is gentle and non-invasive: you rest fully clothed while the work is done, and most people sink into a state of deep relaxation within minutes.
Reiki does not belong to any religion and requires no belief to receive. It asks only that you lie down, breathe, and let the session unfold.
How Reiki healing works
During a session, energy is directed to the body’s energy centres — the chakras — and to any areas holding tension. Practitioners work with a sequence of hand positions over the head, torso and limbs, either resting lightly on the body or hovering just above it.
The intention is simple: to support the body’s own capacity to restore balance. Where energy feels blocked, scattered or depleted, Reiki gives the system space to settle and reorganise itself.
What happens during a Reiki session
- Arrival & conversation. A short, unhurried conversation about what brings you in — stress, grief, physical tension, or simply curiosity.
- The session. You lie fully clothed on a treatment table. Zeita works through the energy centres with light touch or hovering hands. Most people describe warmth, stillness or drifting.
- Integration. Time to surface gently, talk through anything that arose, and simple guidance for the days that follow.
What Reiki may help with
People explore Reiki for many reasons. Common ones include:
- Stress and relaxation — an overactive mind, a body that won’t switch off
- Emotional wellbeing — grief, anxiety, feeling flat or overwhelmed
- Sleep — difficulty falling or staying asleep
- Energy and balance — feeling depleted, scattered or “not yourself”
- Support during difficult seasons — illness, loss, transition
Reiki is a complementary practice. It sits comfortably alongside conventional medical care and other holistic approaches such as chakra balancing, color therapy and reflexology.
Reiki and the chakras
Reiki and chakra work are natural companions. The seven energy centres — from root to crown — each govern an aspect of physical and emotional life, and a Reiki session moves through them in turn. Where a centre feels blocked or overactive, more time is spent there. Many clients pair a Reiki session with dedicated chakra balancing and massage for deeper work on a specific centre.
After the session
Most people leave feeling calm, clear and a little lighter. It is worth drinking water, keeping the rest of the day gentle where possible, and noticing how you sleep. Any sensations that arose during the session usually settle into a quiet steadiness over the following days.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a Reiki session last?
A typical session lasts around 60 minutes, including a short conversation before and after the hands-on work. First sessions may run slightly longer.
Do I need to undress for Reiki?
No. You remain fully clothed throughout. Energy is channelled through light touch or hovering hands — comfort and consent always come first.
What does Reiki feel like?
Most people describe warmth, gentle tingling, deep stillness or a drifting, dream-like state. Some simply feel deeply rested. There is no right or wrong experience.
How many sessions will I need?
Some people come for a single session when life feels heavy; others prefer a short series to work with something more persistent. Zeita will discuss what seems sensible for you — there is never pressure to book more.
Can Reiki replace medical treatment?
No. Reiki is a complementary practice that many people use alongside conventional care for relaxation and wellbeing. It is not a diagnosis or cure, and it is not a substitute for advice from your doctor.
